David Chukwuma is pursuing his Master of Science in Information Technology and will be graduating in the spring. Throughout his time at CMU-Africa, he has tackled multiple projects focused on making technology more accessible and improving life for people in rural areas.
Together with a team of four others, David created an application to help patients schedule appointments with healthcare providers. This is important for places like Rwanda, where patients typically must wait in line to see a doctor rather than schedule appointments. This application would minimize the wait, which sometimes can be for hours. The application provides access to not only primary care physicians, but also specialists who have more limited availability. David’s team ensured that patients would be able to use the application, regardless of their level of literacy or access to technology. The team designed the app to run on any mobile phone and to be as simple as possible for the user in order to provide underserved communities in Rwanda with better access to healthcare providers.
