On November 5, CMU-Africa took a break from the daily norm to connect, restore, and play. With classes canceled, students were able to partake in a variety of in-person and virtual events. The day also gave faculty and staff the opportunity to celebrate the diverse and strong-knit CMU-Africa community.
The theme for this year's Tartan Community Day was connection, in all of its various forms, and the joy that comes from it. Connection can be big or it can be small, rambunctious or quiet, a moment or a lasting journey. It can be a connection to oneself, to a friend, to community and so much more.
The interactive day began with opening remarks from CMU-Africa Director Vijayakumar Bhagavatula and included activities such as yoga, a dance party competition, virtual trivia, a friendly sports competition, a virtual treasure hunt, chess, and more.
During a time when change has been constant and life has presented challenges, the CMU-Africa community found joy through connection — by celebrating being in a shared space, nurturing themselves through self-care and self-exploration, and lifting each other up.
