Afsanat Ineza is currently pursuing a master's in information technology at Carnegie Mellon University Africa. Before joining CMU-Africa, she worked as a software engineer at Turntabl in Ghana, where she honed her technical expertise. Ineza is passionate about specializing in cybersecurity, blending it seamlessly with her software engineering skills to address evolving digital challenges.

Ineza fosters an inclusive environment where open communication thrives. Her leadership style emphasizes approachability and collaboration to resolve issues effectively. As Guild president at CMU-Africa, she spearheads initiatives that foster a strong sense of community, championing inclusivity and enriching campus culture through dynamic student engagement.

Billy Otuma (MSIT '26)

Vice President

Billy Otuma is currently pursuing a master's in information technology at Carnegie Mellon University Africa, specializing in cybersecurity. Alongside his academic pursuits, he is a co-founder of Pikdrive, a carpooling company operating in Nairobi, to create impactful solutions for urban mobility.

Otuma's true commitment lies in serving the student community. As a dedicated leader and Guild vice president at CMU-Africa, he strives to create a supportive and engaging environment where students can thrive. His leadership is anchored in a commitment to service, ensuring that every voice is valued and students' needs are addressed.

Alvina Rwaichi Minja (MSIT '26)

Auditor General

Alvina Rwaichi Minja is a master’s student in information technology with a focus on cybersecurity and data. As the general auditor of the Student Guild, she ensures transparency and accountability in the Guild's finances and operations. She also evaluates club performance to foster more engaging activities and oversees student and club elections to promote fairness and inclusivity.

With a background in computer engineering and information technology, she brings experience in IT auditing, product and project management, and human-centered design. Passionate about innovation and impactful solutions, she has worked with startups in fintech, security, and social initiatives. Her interests include research in healthcare, privacy and security, fintech, and hacking countermeasures. She is committed to leveraging technology in secure and ethical ways to drive meaningful innovation across diverse fields.

Communications Minister

Alice Mugengano is currently pursuing a master’s degree in information technology at Carnegie Mellon University Africa, with a focus on data science. She is passionate about leveraging technology to solve real-world challenges through advanced coding, data analysis and problem-solving. Her academic journey includes impactful projects, such as developing a rideshare program optimized with machine learning algorithms. These experiences have honed her skills in optimization, user-centric design, and scalable application development, aligning with her commitment to using data-driven solutions for innovation.

In her role as communications minister, Mugengano applies her analytical and problem-solving skills to improve community engagement. She is dedicated to creating a transparent, inclusive, and accessible communication system that ensures every voice is heard and valued. Her efforts aim to bridge gaps within the community, empowering members to actively participate in activities while ensuring the Guild remains open, connected, and representative of the vibrant spirit of Carnegie Mellon University Africa.

Chisom Ogbogu Emmanuel (MS ECE '26)

Academic Affairs and Research Minister

Chisom Ogbogu Emmanuel is currently pursuing an advanced master’s degree in electrical and computer engineering with a concentration in intelligent physical systems at Carnegie Mellon University Africa. Before joining CMU-Africa, he founded Real Academi, a firm dedicated to helping graduate-level students incorporate sustainability concepts into their theses while supporting both quantitative and qualitative data gathering for research.

In addition to his work with graduate students, Chisom has led several impact-driven projects aimed at equipping undergraduate STEM students with hands-on research experience. These initiatives were designed to deepen their understanding of broad mathematical concepts and foster their passion for innovation.

His research interests span energy systems, multi-energy systems, smart grids, battery and power system optimization, and hydrogen-based technologies. He has published three papers in high-impact journals. Among his notable publications, he authored a paper on proton exchange membrane (PEM) technology in the Energies journal, focusing on its integration with renewable energy systems to enhance efficiency and sustainability.

As academic affairs and research minister, he is dedicated to inspiring students to embrace the thrill of research and the fulfillment that comes from contributing to the broader academic community. He champions initiatives that bridge the gap between theoretical learning and practical, impactful research, empowering students to drive meaningful change. Additionally, he is committed to strengthening the student-faculty relationship at CMU-Africa, fostering a more inclusive and collaborative academic environment.

Social Affairs Minister

Calvin Prince SAGATWA is a master's student in information technology at Carnegie Mellon University Africa, specializing in cybersecurity and software engineering. With a keen eye for innovation, he combines academic excellence with practical experience in IT support, project coordination, and system administration. He holds certifications from CISCO in cybersecurity, CFTE in fintech, and IBM in artificial intelligence.

As the social affairs minister for the CMU-Africa Guild, he actively contributes to the vibrant academic community, blending his technical expertise with leadership skills.

He aspires to create innovative solutions that drive technological advancements and positively impact communities. His blend of academic pursuit, practical experience, and community involvement positions him as a promising innovator in the field of Information Technology

Finance Minister

Marie Michaella Rugumbira is a master's student at Carnegie Mellon University Africa, with a background in web and mobile development and automated testing. She is passionate about leveraging machine learning to create innovative solutions for Africa, particularly in AI in healthcare.

In addition to her technical work, she is deeply committed to community service. She volunteers for orphans and disabled children, raising funds to support their living expenses. She also serves as the Treasury Minister for student-led activities, working to secure funding for initiatives that foster a better community.

With a strong focus on social impact, she combines her expertise in technology with a dedication to improving lives across Africa.

Sports and Wellness Minister

Mukwiye Christian is a passionate and driven leader with a strong foundation in information technology, cybersecurity, and project management. His academic journey, which includes pursuing a master’s degree in information technology from Carnegie Mellon University Africa and earning a bachelor’s degree in computer science from the African Leadership University, has equipped him with the skills and knowledge to tackle complex challenges and lead innovative initiatives.

Throughout his career, he has demonstrated exceptional leadership, problem-solving, and technical expertise across various roles, including IT technical support, security operations, and network management. His proven ability to adapt to challenges and implement innovative solutions aligns seamlessly with the responsibilities of his new role as sports and wellness minister, where he is committed to fostering inclusive growth, enhancing community well-being, and driving impactful initiatives.

His vision is to foster growth and inclusivity while creating meaningful, impactful programs that enhance the well-being of the community. He believes in the power of teamwork, technology, and strategic planning to drive transformative outcomes, and he is committed to serving with integrity, dedication, and a clear purpose.

Manyara Bonface Baraka is pursuing a master's degree in engineering and artificial intelligence at Carnegie Mellon University Africa, specializing in applied machine learning. With prior experience as a technical mentor at Moringa School - Kenya, he has sharpened his teaching skills by sharing his knowledge and expertise with students. He is strategically building relationships to invest in and empower young tech talents across Africa.

He serves as the international affairs minister at CMU-Africa, where he plays a key role in fostering a vibrant and supportive community for both new and current students. Motivated by the potential of teamwork and collaboration, he is committed to leveraging his expertise to drive innovation and create a lasting impact in Africa’s tech ecosystem.
